"Receive Jesus for Who He Is"

What happens when the Jesus we want isn’t the Jesus we actually need?

In John 12:12–19, Jesus enters Jerusalem to the cheers of a crowd waving palm branches and declaring Him King. They welcomed Him with excitement, but many had expectations about who Jesus was and what He had come to do. Jesus wasn’t simply coming to meet their expectations. He was coming as the promised King and Savior they truly needed.

This passage invites us to examine how we receive Jesus in our own lives. Are we following Him for who He truly is, or are we trying to fit Him into our plans, preferences, and expectations?

Jesus is worthy of more than our enthusiasm when life goes the way we hoped. He invites us to trust Him, follow Him, and receive Him as King.

House of Refuge Serve Day
Serving Those in Need Heritage has been partnering with House of Refuge Sunnyslope for years as they help individuals rebuilding their lives after incarceration, addiction, and unemployment. Their ministry goes beyond meeting immediate needs like food, shelter, and safety—they provide a Christ-centered community where residents develop practical life skills, experience meaningful relationships, and work toward lasting transformation. On October 10, Heritage will spend the morning serving at House of Refuge Sunnyslope through several maintenance projects, primarily painting and landscaping. It’s a practical opportunity to come alongside a ministry doing meaningful work in our city and help care for the place their residents call home. Sign up to serve on October 10 and spend the morning making a tangible difference alongside others from Heritage. There are also opportunities throughout the year for Small Groups to serve by preparing meals for House of Refuge residents. Come spend time moving through interactive prayer stations, praying through Scripture, and lifting up the needs of our church and people who need to know Jesus. This Week's Message "All In" Jason Fischer | John 12:1-11 What does it truly mean to go all in for Jesus? In John 12, we find Jesus at a dinner just days before the cross. In an extraordinary act of worship, Mary takes costly perfume worth nearly a year’s wages and pours it out on Jesus. She holds nothing back. Her extravagant devotion stands in sharp contrast to Judas, whose seemingly practical concerns reveal something very different happening in his heart. Their responses invite us to examine our own: Are we willing to surrender what is precious to us, or do we still want to follow Jesus while holding onto control? But before this passage asks us what we're willing to give Jesus, it points us toward what Jesus was willing to give for us. The cross was drawing near, and Jesus was about to demonstrate the ultimate act of sacrificial love. He held nothing back. When we understand that kind of love, wholehearted devotion isn't about earning something from Jesus. It's our response to the One who has already given everything for us. All Church Lunch on 9/13!
Stick around after service on Sunday, September 13 for All Church Lunch—a relaxed afternoon with free hamburgers and hot dogs, plenty of good food, and space to connect with friends or meet someone new at Heritage. That morning, we’ll also be celebrating the fall launch of Small Groups and the opportunity to grow deeper in relationship with Jesus and one another. It’s a simple picture of what it means to be grounded, growing, and generous together—sharing life, food, and community as a church family. Lunch is on us! But help make the table even better by bringing a favorite tailgate-style side or snack to share, like chips and dip, wings, taquitos, little smokies, nachos, kabobs, or whatever you love to bring to the party. No registration needed—just bring something to share and plan to stick around!

We are collecting gently used adult clothing and blankets to help meet these needs. Donations can be dropped off at the church through Friday, August 28th. Thank you for partnering with us as we serve our neighbors in need! Women’s Gather Event - September 19 GATHER is an annual morning for the Women of Heritage to connect, share stories, and turn our attention together toward God. Welcome to Worship & Creative
The Vision for Our Team Heritage Worship & Creative teams consist of worship leaders, musicians, production & technical assistants, camera & livestream operators, photographers, filmmakers, and artists. The vision and culture for the Heritage Worship & Creative teams is a vibrant, passionate, Spirit-led community of worshippers who use their gifts and skillsets to serve God and serve others within the church. We’ll pursue this through a myriad of creative and technical expressions, but the goal will always be constant and consistent: to lift high the name of Jesus Christ through what we create together. We long to be all about Jesus, all about people, and we value a heart of service, unity, and leadership amongst our teams and community. We value time together, sharing what the Lord is doing in our lives personally, praying and worshipping together, and honestly just having fun 🤓. That’s why we love incorporating Team Nights into the culture of our ministry. Team Nights are a relaxed, fun, focused time to hang together and be equipped by one another. We’re always looking for people with coachable hearts who desire to serve others and our church well. Right now, we are in need of those who wish to help with running our Sunday livestream and cameras, worship visuals (lyrics, videos, notes, etc), musicians for Sunday morning worship and Youth on Sunday PM’s, videographers, and photographers. (Don’t worry––for any of the technical roles we can help train you to get you up to speed!)
