Dinner Parties
Church is more than gathering in the same room on Sunday—it’s sharing life with one another. And sometimes, meaningful relationships begin with something as simple as sitting around a table together. That’s the heart behind Dinner Parties. Over a couple of weekends, several people from Heritage will open their homes and host a small group for dinner. Simply register and choose your preferred date, and we’ll match you with one of our hosts and others from church for an evening together. Your host will then reach out with the location, time, and any other details you need to know. There’s no agenda or program—just an opportunity to share a meal, enjoy good conversation, meet people you may not know yet, and make Heritage feel a little smaller. Whether you’re newer to community here, have been around for years, or simply want to build more relationships within the church family, there’s a place for you at the table. House of Refuge Serve Day
Serving Those in Need Heritage has been partnering with House of Refuge Sunnyslope for years as they help individuals rebuilding their lives after incarceration, addiction, and unemployment. Their ministry goes beyond meeting immediate needs like food, shelter, and safety—they provide a Christ-centered community where residents develop practical life skills, experience meaningful relationships, and work toward lasting transformation. On October 10, Heritage will spend the morning serving at House of Refuge Sunnyslope through several maintenance projects, primarily painting and landscaping. It’s a practical opportunity to come alongside a ministry doing meaningful work in our city and help care for the place their residents call home. Sign up to serve on October 10 and spend the morning making a tangible difference alongside others from Heritage. There are also opportunities throughout the year for Small Groups to serve by preparing meals for House of Refuge residents. Jason Fischer | John 12:1-11 What does it truly mean to go all in for Jesus?
In John 12, we find Jesus at a dinner just days before the cross. In an extraordinary act of worship, Mary takes costly perfume worth nearly a year’s wages and pours it out on Jesus. She holds nothing back.
Her extravagant devotion stands in sharp contrast to Judas, whose seemingly practical concerns reveal something very different happening in his heart. Their responses invite us to examine our own: Are we willing to surrender what is precious to us, or do we still want to follow Jesus while holding onto control?
But before this passage asks us what we're willing to give Jesus, it points us toward what Jesus was willing to give for us. The cross was drawing near, and Jesus was about to demonstrate the ultimate act of sacrificial love. He held nothing back.
When we understand that kind of love, wholehearted devotion isn't about earning something from Jesus. It's our response to the One who has already given everything for us. Day of Prayer
Prayer is a practice. Prayer is a command. Prayer is a gift. In the book of Acts, prayer is referred to in twenty of the twenty-eight chapters. It is central to who the first believers were. They fellowshipped around it. They fought for one another through it. They saw miracles and people freed from prisons because of their prayers. They watched their friends able to withstand torture and death because of the strength given through lives dedicated to prayer. We don’t totally get it. We think of prayer as secondary to action or as an excuse to not act but these passionate and purpose-filled believers saw it as their first action in service of God. And because of that belief, they did incredible things. They saw the Holy Spirit do incredible things. We want to see it as essential. We want to practice it like it we see it as essential. And we want to experience it as the gift it is. So on September 24th, from 6am to 6pm, we will devote ourselves to prayer. This will be the a similar experience to the 24 Hours of Prayer we hosted back in the spring. We will have stations where you can pray through scripture, paint scripture, and pray over specific requests from people in our church and the people in your life who need to know Jesus. This isn’t sitting in a chair for an hour trying to work yourself up to say the right things or keep your mind stayed on the right things. This will feel so easy that you will be there for an hour and want to stay for twelve. We will end the day with worship together because God deserves our all out praise!

All Church Lunch on 9/13!
Stick around after service on Sunday, September 13 for All Church Lunch—a relaxed afternoon with free hamburgers and hot dogs, plenty of good food, and space to connect with friends or meet someone new at Heritage. That morning, we’ll also be celebrating the fall launch of Small Groups and the opportunity to grow deeper in relationship with Jesus and one another. It’s a simple picture of what it means to be grounded, growing, and generous together—sharing life, food, and community as a church family. Lunch is on us! But help make the table even better by bringing a favorite tailgate-style side or snack to share, like chips and dip, wings, taquitos, little smokies, nachos, kabobs, or whatever you love to bring to the party. No registration needed—just bring something to share and plan to stick around!

The Father's Business
I wrote this last summer and was again encouraged by the Word of God! – Tassie Phifer The summer sometimes steals my sense of purpose. The heat and limitations that accompany it can leave me weary and listless. But the Word of God is like shade in the desert- it protects and renews. “And he said to them, ‘Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?’” Luke 2:49 I have been studying these first words recorded from the mouth of twelve year old Jesus. Some translations say, “…I must be about my Father’s business.” But literally it means, “I must be in the things that are my Father’s.” I have been pondering that and asking myself how can I, like Jesus, be in the things that are my Father’s? Does that mean only the things labeled as “ministry” count? Do I have to be a pastor? The rest of the gospels show an expansive view of what these things are. He starts his life in poverty and he learns a trade and works with his hands and affirms the value of work. He starts his ministry at a wedding and ends it with a death, resurrection and ascension. And in between he heals, he teaches, he celebrates, he mourns, he submits and he sacrifices. Jesus lived a full life in his thirty plus years- it was full of the boring and monotonous, the people who tempted him to stress and anger, and work that never ended and joy that was probably expressed in laugh attacks. It was easy days and days he barely made it through. And then he faced the inevitable death that all humans face. He did it all with joy and purpose and I think he could have that joy because he knew it was ALL part of his Father’s business. Every person he interacted with was part of his Father’s business. All the toil he set his hands to and the prayers he prayed were his Father’s work. And because HE did all this, I CAN TOO. I can view it ALL through the lens of purpose and joy. Some days I feel like I can barely finish the day and all I want is the oblivion of rest but there are days I can count it all joy. I can see that all the clothes I fold for the seven of us is part of the business of the Father because these people are the business of the Father. I see that endless dishes under foaming suds are part of His business. I can see that my walks and chats with my neighbors have purpose because they are the business of the Father’s. I see that my sacrifice no one sees, God sees and he is pleased because I, like Jesus, am in the things that are my Father’s. Be encouraged today! Jesus knows what living means. He knows it feels tedious and painful and unfruitful because he is a High Priest who experienced every temptation we experience. He has compassion for you AND the strength you need to live boldly and fully. I am praying for you. That you would turn to Jesus and ask him to help you see your life the way he does. That you, through his lens, could see the hungry and thirsty around you and point them to the living water. That you could turn even the mundane and monotonous into worship by doing them for him!

Wrestling with Salvation
In our recent podcast discussion, Blake and I tackled some of the more profound questions about salvation that were submitted during our Ask Anything Sunday. We explored the nature of God's grace, the meaning of election, and what it truly means to have saving faith. These aren't just theological concepts to debate—they're foundational truths that shape how we understand our relationship with God and our calling as His people. Just as Blake once pulled his nephew from the bottom of a pool, God has rescued us from certain spiritual death through no merit of our own. This truth reminds us that salvation is entirely God's gracious work, and that reality should fill us with both humility and joy. Key takeaways from this episode: Salvation is a gift, not a reward. Whether someone follows Jesus for decades or turns to Him in their final breath, salvation is received the same way—through God's grace alone. Like the thief on the cross, we can do nothing to earn it. The real miracle isn't that only certain sinners are allowed into heaven; it's that any sinners are allowed in at all. Being "elect" means both rescued and commissioned. God's choosing of us isn't just about being saved from something—it's about being called to something. We are elected not only for salvation but for a vocation: to be witnesses to Jesus, to proclaim His excellencies, and to be a light to the world around us. Saving faith produces fruit. True faith involves knowledge of who Jesus is, assent that His way is the only way, and trust that places our full weight on Him. This faith naturally produces the fruit of the Spirit—including joy, peace, and love—as we abide in Christ and allow Him to work through us. I encourage you to reflect on these truths this week. Are there areas where you've been trying to earn God's favor rather than resting in His grace? How are you living out your calling as one of God's elect people? Gather Women's Event
This year our theme is BEHOLD- The Fatherhood of God. This year in Women's Ministry we have endeavored to look and study and contemplate who God IS. At retreat, we dove into his Goodness, Sovereignty and Personal love for each of us and for Gather we are going to ruminate on the idea of God as Father. We will have women share their stories and spend time sharing at tables. Our plan for this morning is to make room for FUN and CONNECTION and time to REFLECT on how God has loved us as a Father. We are partnering with Hope Women's Center of Phoenix this year, so the cost of this event is a donation! Hope Women’s current needs for August are shampoo/conditioner, body wash/lotion, disinfectant wipes, trash bags 30 gallon size, and toothpaste.
